HistoryIn April 1867, John Bozeman was killed by Blackfoot Indians near Mission Creek. Bozeman's death caused the then territorial governor to organize and deploy a militia to punish the Indians and protect the settlers. Established in 1867 near Martinsdale, Montana on the Musselshell River. Six hundred militia men were encamped at Fort Howie. Disbanded later in 1867. Current StatusUnknown.
