Battery Turman (1899-1918) - Battery Reuben Turman is a concrete Endicott Period Coastal Battery located on Fort Casey (1), Whidbey Island, Island County, Washington. Named in G.O. 194, 27 Dec 1904, after 2nd Lt. Reuben S. Turman, 6th U.S. Infantry, who died 2 Jul 1898 of wounds received at Battle of Santiago, Cuba, 1 Jul 1898, during the Spanish-American War. Lieutenant Turman was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in the attack of his regiment at the Battle of Santiago, on 1 Jul 1898.
