Fort Bute (1766-1779) - A fort built by the British in 1766 to protect the confluence of Bayou Manchac with the Mississippi. It fell to the Spanish on September 7, 1779 in the first Spanish action against the British during the American Revolutionary War. (Later history of the fort?) Links: |
