Cook's Hill Fort

Cook's Hill Fort (1781-1783) - A Revolutionary War militia Fort established in 1781 near Corinth, Orange County, Vermont. Abandoned at the end of the war circa 1783. History Cook's Hill Fort was located at present-day Corinth in Orange County, Vermont. It was erected on 16 Oct 1781, by two companies of troops on Cooke's Hill near the center of town under the supervision of Col. Wait and Major Kingsbury who made it their headquarters. On 16 Oct 1781 five men from the fort proceeding down the Winooski River, were attacked by a party of sixteen tories. Three Americans were wounded, one fatally. The survivors were captured and taken to Quebec, where they stayed until they were released in the spring of 1782. The Fort was abandoned at the end of the war circa 1783. Current Status Unknown.
