Fort Anderson (1) (1862-1862) (1864-1866)- First established May 1862 by Capt. Charles D. Douglas, 2nd California Infantry, as temporary protection from hostile Indians. Named after Col. Allen I. Anderson, 8th California Infantry. Reestablished in February 1864 as Camp Anderson and finally abandoned 9 Aug 1866. 40.9712406 -123.8400597

Directions:
- north on U.S. 101 through Arcata to State 299. Turn right (east), go through Blue Lake, 7 miles. About 12 miles further east, gravel road branches off to left (north). Follow this for 4 miles to Redwood Creek, site of Fort Anderson.
