Presidio of Monterey (1) (1770-1866, 1902-Present) - A Spanish post established in 1770 by Governor Gaspar de Portola in present day Monterey, Monterey County, California. Active U.S. military installation. This post had a progression of names over the course of it's history and they are detailed below.
