Kennebec Arsenal (1828-1903) - First established during the Northeast Boundary Controversy in 1828 in Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine. Abandoned as an Arsenal in 1903.

Kennebec Arsenal History

Constructed between 1828 and 1838 on the east bank of the Kennebec River at Augusta. Eight Greek and Gothic revival granite buildings that included two magazines, two officer's quarters, barracks, a stable, and various shop buildings.

The arsenal was closed in 1903 and became Maine Insane Hospital in 1905.
