Richard Delafield (1798-1873) - Born 1 Sep 1798 in New York City, New York. A career U.S. Army officer, graduate of the United States Military Academy, Chief of Engineers and three times Superintendent of the United States Military Academy. Died 5 Nov 1873 in Washington DC and was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. He entered the United States Military Academy on 10 May 1814 and graduated on 24 Jul 1818 in the Class of 1818 ranking 1st out of 23. <Insert more here> General Richard Delafield died of "soffening of the brain" 5 Nov 1873 in Washington DC and was buried 7 Nov 1873 in Green-Wood Cemetery (Section 36, Lot 3977), Brooklyn, New York. According to the New York Times, President Grant and General Sherman were with him in his last hours.
