Fort Center

Fort Center (1856-1857) - A U.S. Army post established in 1856 during Third Seminole War near the west side of Lake Okeechobee in Glades County, Florida. Named after Lieutenant John P. Center, adjutant, 6th U.S. Infantry, who was killed in the battle of Okechobee, Florida, 25 Dec 1837, during the Second Seminole War. Abandoned in 1857.
