Battery 155 - Brenton Point (1942-1944) - Battery 155 - Brenton Point was a temporary, World War II, 155mm coastal gun battery on Panama mounts. Located on Brenton Point, Newport County, Rhode Island. This battery was serviced from Fort Adams (1). Battery construction started 15 Jun 1942, was completed 25 Aug 1942 and transferred to the Coastal Artillery for use 29 Aug 1942 at a cost of $ 9,975. Deactivated in 1944.

World War II

Part of the Harbor Defense of Narragansett Bay.

Originally built as a temporary World War II coastal gun battery with four 155mm M1918 rapid fire guns mounted on M1918 Mobile Carriages emplaced on circular concrete Panama mounts.

Current Status

Part of Ocean Drive State Park, Aquidneck Island, Newport County, Rhode Island. No period guns or mounts in place but at least one of the concrete Panama mounts is visible.
