Julesburg Post (1864-1864) - A temporary post first established in 1864 by Captain Wilcox, Company B, 7th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, in Sedgwick County, Colorado. The nearby town of Julesburg was named for Jules Beni, a notorious horse thief, and the post was named for that town. Abandoned in 1864. Also known as Fort Julesburg.
Julesburg Post History
A temporary post first established 6 Aug 1864 by Captain Wilcox, Company B, 7th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, near present day Ovid in Sedgwick County, Colorado. No barracks were built and the troops were camped in temporary quarters.
