Fort Center (1856-1857) - A U.S. Army post established in 1856 during Third Seminole War near the west side of Lake Okeechobee in Glades County, Florida. Abandoned in 1857.
Fort Center History
A U.S. Army post established 25 Jan 1856 during Third Seminole War. The post was located along the Fisheating River near the west side of Lake Okeechobee in Glades County, Florida. The post was abandoned 17 Sep 1857.
Current Status
Part of the Fort Center Indian Mound Site in Glades County, Florida
