Fort Loring (1862-1863) - A Confederate post established in 1862 by General William W. Loring and named for him. Located on the Yazoo River west of Greenwood in Leflore County, Mississippi. Abandoned in 1863.

Fort Loring History

Established on an estate formerly known as "Cureton" owned by Colonel John D. McLermore near Itla Bena, Mississippi. Colonel McLemore furnished meat and corn to feed the troops.

Current Status

The Fort Loring was located in the Florewood River Plantation State Park in Leflore County, Mississippi. The state park was auctioned off 23 Jul 2005 by the State of Mississippi, now private property.
