Fort Far West (1849-1852) - A U.S. Army post established in 1849 during the California Gold Rush on Bear Creek near present day Marysville, Yuba County, California. Abandoned in 1852. Also known as Camp Far West and Cantonment Far West.
Fort Far West History
A U.S. Army post established 28 Sep 1849 during the California Gold Rush. The post was establish to protect transportation routes and miners in the area from hostile Indians. The post was abandoned by the garrison on 4 May 1852.
Current Status
Private property in Yuba County, California.
