Fort Davis (3) (1900-1919) - A U.S. Army Fort established in 1900 during the Alaska Gold Rush by Major John T. Van Orsdale, 7th U.S. Infantry, in present day Nome, Nome Census Area, Alaska. Named for Colonel (Bvt Major General) Jefferson Columbus Davis, 23rd U.S. Infantry, Department Commander in 1867 when Alaska was purchased. Abandoned in 1919.
Fort Davis (3) History
Established by Major John T. Van Orsdale, and two companies (A & K) of 7th U.S. Infantry on 28 Jun 1900.
The post was abandoned in 1919.
Current Status
Nome, Nome Census Area, Alaska.
