Kennebec Arsenal (1828-1903) - First established during the Northeast Boundary Controversy in 1828 in Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine. Abandoned as an Arsenal in 1903.
Kennebec Arsenal History
Constructed between 1828 and 1838 on the east bank of the Kennebec River at Augusta. Eight Greek and Gothic revival granite buildings that included the main arsenal building, two magazines, three officer's quarters, a barracks and an office building.
The arsenal was closed in 1903 and became Maine Insane Hospital in 1905.

Historic buildings sill exist along Arsenal Street but are vacant and in a state of neglect and decline. The State of Maine has sued the current owner for return of the property.
