Fort Van Swearingen
Fort Van Swearingen (1838-1842) - A U.S. Army post established in 1838 during the Second Seminole War by Captain B. Beall, 2nd U.S. Dragoons in Martin County, Florida. Named after Captain Joseph Van Swearingen, who was killed at the Battle of Okeechobee]], 25 Dec 1837. Probably abandoned in 1842 at the end of the war.
