Fort Duffield (1861-1862) - Construction began 1 Nov 1861 and was completed in December 1861. The fort was named after Col. William W. Duffield, 9th Michigan Infantry.

Fort Duffield History

The fort was built on Pearman Hill overlooking the town of West Point, Kentucky. There were up to 950 troops stationed there.

The earthworks of the fort was a serpentine wall and are well-preserved. There was a one mile clearing between the fort and any trees. A spring inside the fort provided fresh water.
