Battery Van Swearingen

Battery Van Swearingen (1898-1921) - An Endicott Period concrete battery constructed in 1898 and named for Capt. Joseph Van Swearingen, 6th U.S. Infantry, killed 25 Dec 1837 in the Seminole Indian Wars. Armed with two British Armstrong 4.7" guns on pedestal mounts. Disarmed in 1921.
