Mica Peak FAA Radar Site (1979-Active) - A Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Radar Site first established in 1979 near Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. Replaced Mica Peak Air Force Station and located on the same site. Initially assigned a SAGE ID of Z-151, a JSS ID of J-79 and a FAA ID of QMI. Active FAA Radar Site.

History of Mica Peak FAA Radar Site

Insitally established as Mica Peak Air Force Station operated by US Air Force. The site became an FAA/ADC joint-use site circa 1959, furnishing radar track data to the FAA and to USAF Direction Centers. The radar site came under FAA control in 1979.

JSS System

When the FAA took over operation of the site in 1979 the equipment configuration included the FPS-67B search radar and a FPS-116 height finder. The height finder was maintained by detachments of US Air Force personnel until it was removed in 1988.

The site was reconfigured circa 1998 with the installation of an ARSR-4 3D (combination search & height finder) radar. The remaining empty USAF radar towers and buildings were removed leaving only the ARSR-4 tower and FAA support buildings on the site.

Current Status

Mica Peak Roadblock.

Active facility on Mica Peak near the city of Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. Motorized traffic to the site is prevented by a locked gate on the Mica Peak Radar Site Road near the intersection with South Star Road.
