Highlands Military Reservation (1917-1920, 1940-1974) - First established in 1917. Abandoned in 1974.
Endicott Period
Part of the Harbor Defense of Southern New York. Established to provide protective shelter to U.S. shipping and to guard an important shipping channel into New York Harbor.
