Fort Sabine (1) (1862-1863) - A Confederate post established in 1862 by the citizens of Sabine Pass in Jefferson County, Texas. Abandoned in 1863.

Fort Sabine (1) History

Established as a dirt and timber earthwork by the citizens of Sabine Pass in Jefferson County, Texas. This post was first garrisoned by militia men from the Sabine Pass Guard and later by the 6th Texas Infantry. The post was heavily shelled and damaged on 24 Sep 1862 by Union gunboats and later abandoned for Fort Griffin.
