Fort Fanning (2) (1838-1843) - A U.S. Army post originally established as Fort No. 9 E in 1838 in present day Dixie or Levy County, Florida. Renamed Fort Fanning for Lieutenant Colonel A.C.W. Fanning, 4th U.S. Artillery. Abandoned 1843. Also known as Fort Palmetto.
