Fort Van Swearingen
Fort Van Swearingen (1838-1842) - A U.S. Army post established in 1838 during the Second Seminole War by Captain [[B. Beall, 2nd U.S. Dragoons in Martin County, Florida. Named after Captain Joseph Van Swearingen, who was killed at the Battle of Okeechobee]], 25 Dec 1837. Probably abandoned in 1842 at the end of the war.
