Camp Stuart (2) (1916-1917) - A U.S. Army Camp established in 1916 during the Mexican Border Campaign by Major General John J. Pershing in present day El Paso, El Paso County, Texas. Abandoned in 1917. Also known as Camp Stewart.

Camp Stuart (2) History
A temporary U.S. Army camp established by Major General John J. Pershing in 1916 on the Texas-Mexico border at El Paso. General Pershing was sent to the border with 4800 troops by President Woodrow Wilson in response to an across-the-border raid by Mexican bandit Pancho Villa. The expedition began on 15 Mar 1916, six days after the raid by Pancho Villa. General Pershing pursued Pancho Villa into Mexico, fought several inconclusive skirmishes and succeeded in scattering Villa's forces but did not capture Villa. Pershings forces were withdrawn from the conflict on 19 Jan 1917 by the President as the U.S. entry inro World War I loomed.
The post was abandoned in 1917 when the troops were removed.
