Fort Decatur (2) (1814-1815) - A War of 1812 militia fort established in 1814 near Milstead, Macon County, Alabama. Abandoned in 1815. History of Fort Decatur (2) Established in March 1814 on the east bank of the Tallapoosa River by Colonel Homer Y. Milton and Carolina Volunteer Militia. John Sevier, Tennessee's first governor, died at the fort 24 Sep 1815 while arbitrating a boundary dispute between Georgia and the Creek Nation. He was buried at the fort and reburied at Knoxville in 1888. Abandoned in 1815. Current Status Unknown.
