Fort Franklin (5) (1756-1756) - A Pennsylvania Colonial Militia French & Indian War Fort established in 1756 near Snyders, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Named Fort Franklin after Benjamin Franklin. Abandoned later in 1756. Also known as Fort above Allemangle. History of Fort Franklin (5)Established in 1756 from plans by Benjamin Franklin after the massacre at Gnadenhutten (Weissport) in November 1755. Built on a hill top as a 40 foot square palisade with two log houses at opposite corners serving as bastions. Described as poorly built and very unfit for defense. Abandoned later in 1756. Current StatusNo remains, marker only.
