HistoryFort Galt was reportedly located near present-day Bloomingdale at the Alafia River Bridge crossing on FL Hwy 640. The site was some 20 miles east of Fort Brooke at Tampa Bay. Fort Gait was a temporary fort established on 19 Jan 1857, by Bvt Major John B. Scott (Cullum 274), 4th U.S. Artillery, and Company I, with 82 men. The post's 1st return available was dated January 1857 and the last return was dated one month later for February 1857. Current StatusNo marker located, status unknown.
