Fort San Carlos de Austria (1698-1719) - A Spanish Colonial fort from the first Spanish period established in 1698 on present day Pensacol Naval Air Station in Escambia County, Florida. Named for King Carlos II, Hapsburg King of Spain. Destroyed by the French in 1719. Fort San Carlos de Austria HistoryPart of the Spanish colonial Fort San Carlos de Austria/Presidio Santa Maria de Galve complex established 21 Nov 1698 on a bluff above Pensacola Bay.
Current StatusPartially reconstructed log palisade fort on active military installation, Escambia County, Florida. Access may be restricted.
