Battery AMTB 20 - Rockaway Point (1943-1946) - Battery AMTB 20 - Rockaway Point was a reinforced concrete, World War II, 3 inch AMTB coastal gun battery on Fort Tilden, New York. Battery construction started 25 Feb 1943, was completed 31 Mar 1943 and transferred to the Coast Artillery for use 10 Jul 1943 at a cost of $ 5950.00. Deactivated in 1946. World War II Part of the Harbor Defense of Southern New York. The battery had a dual mission of defense against fast enemy motor torpedo boats and enemy aircraft. Originally built as an World War II concrete coastal gun battery with two 3" M1902MI guns mounted on M1902 pedestal carriages. Two concrete pads for the fixed guns were laid just back of the beach at Rockaway Point, Queens County, New York. The guns and carriages were transferred from emplacements #1 and #2 of Battery Catlin, Fort Wadsworth, on 23 Mar 1942.
