Fort Dade (3) (1899-1946) - Construction on this Endicott Period coastal fort began in 1899. Named in 1900 for Major Francis L. Dade, 4th U.S. Infantry, who was killed along with his entire command by hostile Seminole Indians 28 Dec 1835. Abandoned in 1936 but reactivated during World War II. Permanently abandoned in 1946.
