Fort Tongass (1868-1870) - A U.S. Army fort first established in 1868 on Tongass Island, Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area, Alaska. Abandoned in 1870. Established in Jun 1868 by Captain Charles H. Peirce and a Battery of the 2nd U.S. Artillery following the purchase of Alaska by the U.S. in 1867.
Abandoned in September 1870.
