Fort McAllister (1)
Fort McAllister (1) (1861-1864) - A Confederate U.S. Civil War Coastal Fort established in 1861 by Capt. John McCrady, Confederate Engineers to protect Savannah. Named after the family of Col. Joseph L. McAllister. Abandoned in 1864 after being captured by the forces of Union General William T. Sherman in his march to the sea.

Established by Confederate forces as a part of the Confederate U.S. Civil War Harbor Defense of Savannah.
Current Status
Now a part of Fort McAllister Historic State Park. Period guns and carriages in place.
