Fort Lee (1) (1774-1794) - Established in 1774 by Isaac Crissman, Sr.. Col. Joseph Martin and militia troops occupied the fort from 1777 until the end of Indian hostilities in 1794. Also known as Crissman's Fort, Rye Cove Fort and Carter's Fort.

Fort Lee (1) History

Fort Lee was first established in 1774 by Isaac Crissman, Sr.. Taken over by Thomas Carter after Crissman was killed by Indians in 1776. Rebuilt in 1777 by Col. Joseph Martin and militia troops who occupied the fort from 1777 until the end of Indian hostilities in 1794. Fort Lee was the militia name for the fort but it was more commonly known as Rye Cove Fort.
