History of Fort Sidney Johnston![]() Established in 1862 as a part of the Confederate defense of Mobile Bay. One of the key fortifications in Mobile Bay, armed with 12 guns. Abandoned at the end of the war in 1865. Current StatusArcheological remains only, some unearthed in 2003 at the site of former Monroe Park near Choctaw Point.
