Fort Sidney Johnston (1862-1865) - A Confederate U.S. Civil War Fort established in 1862 near Mobile in Mobile County, Alabama. Named Fort Sidney Johnston after Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston (Cullum 436), who was killed at the Battle of Shilo on 6 Apr 1862. Abandoned at the end of the war in 1865.

History

Fort Sidney Johnston

Established in 1862 as a part of the Confederate defense of Mobile Bay. One of the key fortifications in Mobile Bay, armed with 12 guns.

Abandoned at the end of the war in 1865.

Current Status

Archeological remains only, some unearthed in 2003 at the site of former Monroe Park near Choctaw Point.
