On 30 Sep 1919 the U.S. Secretary of War ordered a large scale cutback in coastal defense armament. The Ordinance Department followed with instructions for the large scale scrapping of coastal guns and carriages on 26 May 1920. The batteries below are some of those affected by this order.

Carriages affected

  • Mortar 12" M1891 72 Ordered scrapped 400.702/443,444,445 26 May 1920 declared obsolete by Sec. of War 30 Sep 1919
  • Carriage 3" (15-pdr) B.C. M1898MI 113 Ordered scrapped 400.702/435,436,437 5 May 1920 declared obsolete by Sec. of War 27 Mar 1920 Guns at Watervliet.
